Living in the Caribbean, one thing’s for sure… it’s hot. For a good nine months out of the year I don’t even look at my oven. So we grill out a lot. A few weeks ago we ran out of BBQ sauce and it was already too late… we didn’t feel like getting back out and going to the store. So I figured, “How hard could it be to make my own BBQ sauce?”
Turns out, not hard at all!
I am from Texas and we like our sauce thick, sweet and spicy, with a slight “bite”. This is the starting place… adjust the seasonings from here to your liking!
1 Cup Ketchup
1/4 Cup of Apple Cider Vinegar (you can substitute an “adult” beverage here if you wish)
1/3 Cup Worcestershire Sauce
2 Tbsp Honey
2 Tbsp Jalapeno Mustard
1/4 Cup Firmly Packed Light Brown Sugar
1 Tbsp Garlic Tabasco Sauce
1 Tbsp Tony Chachere’s
1 Tbsp Red Pepper Flakes
1 Tbsp Mrs. Dash’s Hamburger Grill Mates
1 tsp Black Pepper
Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan over low heat until heated through… I used a whisk. That’s it. Store in a container in the fridge. I’m not sure how long it keeps… we finished ours within a few weeks it was so delicious!
